Microsoft Surface Has Sold Out US Pre-Orders

The Microsoft Surface, Microsoft's first foray into the tablet market, is starting to generate quite the buzz. In face they've completely sold out all pre-orders in the US that were slated to ship on October 26th.

Microsoft also moved back the initial shipping date for the UK to November 2nd.

Microsoft is betting a lot on the Surface, as it is ordering between 3 and 5 million units for the fourth quarter. However, if you want to order or pre-order a Surface, you can only do so on Microsoft's website or at one of the 60+ Microsoft stores across the country.

Samsung President Confirms Galaxy Note 8 At MWC

New information about Samsung's Note line didn't surfaced during CES, but iNew24 has reported that Samsung Telecoms President Jong-Kyun Shin confirmed the debut of the Galaxy Note 8 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Nothing is certain about the resolution or processor just yet. It is also not confirmed if this will be merely an 8-inch tablet to compete with the Asus Nexus 7 and iPad Mini, or if it will be a giant phone to usher in the "phablet" era. We'll have to wait as Samsung reveals more information at MWC next month.

Apple Announces 128GB 4th Generation iPad

If you were waiting for a newer iPad, get ready to spend more money because Apple announced today they will be releasing a 128GB version of the iPad 4 on Feb 5th, 2013. The new iPad will be available in black or white and will cost $799 for Wi-Fi only, and $929 for a cellular version. Philip Schiller, Apple SVP of Worldwide Marketing said in a press release "With more than 120 million iPad sold, it's clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs. With twice the storage capacity and unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs."

It appears that Apple is targeting business users specifically with this new iteration, which makes sense due to its higher price range and higher storage capacity.

According to TNW, Microsoft announced on Tuesday, January 8, it will be starting its migration process by switching 100 million-plus of its messenger users to Skype on March 15, 2013. Microsoft made the original announcement about the migration process back in November.

Tony Bates, Skype CEO, says:

On 15th March 2013 we are retiring the existing Messenger service globally (except for mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available) and bringing the great features of Messenger and Skype together.

Microsoft continues to encourage its users to "update to Skype.” Microsoft users can sign into Skype using their Microsoft account login and password. As soon as you login to Skype, all messenger contacts will be updated

Microsoft has launched a new version of Skype for Windows and Mac. Skype 6.2 features a new toolbar, eGifting, and can notify Skype users when its a friends birthday. You can also give your friends Skype credit which can be used for making calls. The new toolbar was redesigned to give users access to Home, Calling Phones, Adding Contacts, Creating Groups all in one place. Existing users can download the new version of Skype by going to Skype > check for updates.
